A candle can become part of a lovely routine. A few careful habits help you enjoy it while paying attention to fire safety. Always read and follow the safety information on your candle’s label first.
✂️ Before lighting
When the candle is cool, trim the wick to about 5 mm and clear away loose wick trimmings. Place the candle upright on a stable, heat-resistant surface, away from draughts and anything that could catch fire.
🔥 While it is burning
Never leave a lit candle unattended. Put it out when you leave the room and before going to sleep. Keep candles and naked flames away from children, pets, curtains, paper and furniture. Follow the burn-time instructions on the candle label and do not burn a candle for more than four hours at a time.
🕯️ When you are finished
Use a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame. Do not move a burning candle; wait for the wax and container to cool before handling. For jar candles, stop using them when about 1–1.5 cm of wax remains at the bottom.
